Itinerary description

The approach to the canyon starts from the spectacular Amphitheater campground, which sits at 8,400 feet! You will embark on a steep 2.3 mile hike, with nearly 2000ft of elevation gain heading toward the Chief Ouray Mine, where the trail eventually crosses Cascade Creek; this is where you will begin your descent.

Some of the highlights in Cascade Creek include 175ft and 200ft waterfalls, plus "The Corkscrew”, which is an 100ft rappel down twisting tiers! As if that wasn’t enough, the last waterfall of the day is 270ft and ends right in town.

Cascade Creek is suited for those that have developed their confidence and skills in intermediate canyons. The challenge to take on such a canyon will be an accomplishment to share for years to come. You can literally point to the canyon you have completed when visiting Ouray.
