About Ouray

Ouray is blessed with spectacular canyons; written about by Michael Dallin and Ira Lewis, enjoyed by experienced canyoners and celebrated annually at the Ouray Canyoning Festival organized by Greg Foye and the Ouray Canyon Coalition. Canyoning / Canyoneering is not only fun, but it is also a great opportunity to spend time in nature. Since launching in 2016 we have offered tours between May – September, making Ouray’s spectacular waterfalls and canyons accessible to all. No experience is necessary for beginner canyons, but you do need a reasonable level of fitness and each canyon has a minimum age requirement for participation.

Getting Here

Ouray’s closest airport is Montrose Regional Airport. Due to COVID-19 you will need to confirm which airlines are still offering direct flights. Usually, there are flights from Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston and Phoenix. If you decide to fly to Montrose, you can book a shuttle to Ouray with Western Slope Rides or rent a car at the airport. There are three other airports in the region, Telluride Regional Airport, Durango-La Plata County Airport and Grand Junction Regional Airport. If you are looking to explore more of Colorado and make a spectacular day out of your journey, you can take the Amtrak’s California Zephyr from Denver to Grand Junction. If you arrive by Amtrak, you’ll need to arrange transport from Grand Junction to Ouray (approximately 2 hours drive).
