From Shawnee Oklahoma; graduate of the University of Arkansas. Andrew grew up spending time in nature with his family, from canoe trips to wilderness adventures with the scouts. Andrew became familiar with white water, ropes and knots at a young age, when he discovered canyoning there was no looking back.
Andrew’s canyoning career began in 2009, and he has grown to become a respected and professional canyoner within the industry. Year round dedication, travelling between hemispheres working for commercial canyoning companies, enabled Andrew to develop desirable skills as a guide.
When joining Andrew in the canyon, you will find he is patient, knowledgeable, professional and good fun! Andrew’s skills go beyond the canyon walls as he progressed to Operations Manager for the biggest canyoning operation in New Zealand, and the Southern Hemisphere at the time. In 2013, Andrew joined the International Canyoning Organization of Professionals, reviewing ICOpro training manuals before publication. He has now progressed within the organization to Head Training Master, where he is in charge of techniques and physics. Over the years Andrew has developed experience in commercial, expedition and recreational canyoning, teaming up with canyoners from all over the world.
While Andrew’s passion for canyoning was developed in New Zealand, his favorite place to go canyoning is Ticino, Switzerland and his most challenging descent was an 8 day canyon in Taiwan. He is excited to get involved at the annual Ouray Canyon Festival (August 9-13, 2017) where he will give a talk on the Taiwan Canyoning Expedition.
Andrew has been lucky enough to selectively work for reputable canyoning companies all over the world, ensuring they, like him are on par with current safety standards. He manages a consultancy service where he advises and/or writes Safety Operations Plans for outdoor companies, and his most recent plan was for Canyoning Colorado. Andrew’s latest project is a technical canyoning blog, where he shares current and new techniques, invoking conversation within the industry, raising the bar and elevating standards.
